The Amazeball Race

So instead of having some sappy dinner, I decided to celebrate my one year anniversary a little differently. After a long afternoon at Bananas, Jo and I came up with what I named The Amazeball Race. Basically, people would be in teams and race around town to take pictures of certain things. Like The Amazing Race meets a highly inappropriate scavenger hunt. Ha.

So at the crack of 9:00 a.m. Saturday, the Amazeball Race commenced. The lists were given out, the swag bags turned over. Teams raced all around Orlando looking for a list of heart items (e.g., a hospital, heart healthy food, the color red) and non-heart related items (e.g., hug a Starbucks employee, a Mini Cooper, a NY license). Pictures then got uploaded to Photobucket. The winning team got a nifty blow up trophy that I found on Amazon. I had the best time! Jo and I were a team and we had a blast. Here are some pictures of the teams which are totally okay to show on the Internet...haha.

Carlos - I swear Carlos and Ty were the most creative! Hysterical!

The Yellow team (they won!)

Kevin & Logan...best dressed! They had camo capes!

Ha. Good times.

Instead of blogging the day of my one year anniversary of being heart attack free, I took the day to enjoy it. I took a personal day from work, slept in, got a massage, got my car cleaned, shopped, and got a mani/pedi. I took the entire day to reflect on the past year and enjoy being alive. I relished the day. I cuddled my fuzzy kids, sent text messages to the ones I love, and even listened to music that reminded me that being alive is an amazing thing. Dinner and a night out with a dear friend was a great ending to the day.

It's funny, this one year anniversary. In my mind I had anticipated a highly emotional day filled with anxiety, big emotional reactions and tears. Instead I felt really at peace. I had a smile on my face most of the day. I felt calm, relaxed, and (dare I say it) more mature than I have in a long time. Each minute seemed like seconds because the day was one big ride on a cloud. I took in large gulps of fresh air and exhaled deeply. I felt deeply. Might I say, it felt good. ♥

Just Call Me LiLo

Ok, who really gets hospitalized for dehydration? Lindsay Lohan that's who. I used to be highly critical of Lindsay, but now I feel her pain.

Sunday we came home from watching the marathon and I completely passed out. Half an hour later I woke up from my deep sleep to make a run for the bathroom. I was sicker than a dog all afternoon and all night. The next day I started to get a little panicky and called my cardiologist. The nurse told me to go to my PCP to rule out the flu. Appointment was made and I was out the door. The doc gave me an EKG which came back abnormal so they had to send me to the E.R...lovely.

Short story? Admitted, tested, rested. I had tachycardia, which is basically my heart beating too fast. Not sure which came first, the dehydration or the tachycardia, but that was the situation. So I spent a night at the bed and breakfast and came home Tuesday night. Pretty annoyed at the entire situation so now I'm drinking liquids like a motha. Remind me to tweet LiLo an apology. #LiLoH2ORMC ♥

Disney Weekend-Part One

So while Amanda, Elie, Amy, Gloria and Leah tackle the Goofy Challenge this weekend, I ran 6 with Kathleen. Today the Goofy ladies ran the Half and tomorrow we're going to support them for the full (stay tuned for pics on Sunday!). Sure my 6 sounds miniscule next to their 39.3. Sure my watch beeped every bloody second this morning. Sure I look like a drowned rat that has just come back from the dead when I'm done. However, I have to remember how lucky I am. To pep me up a bit I ran my stats from 2012 on Daily Mile. I ran 322 miles this year. Seems insignificant to some runners, but to me this is huge. It really helped put things into perspective. So today I send well wishes to our Goofy peeps and to all of you. We are all truly lucky to be around. What do you feel lucky for today? ♥

Healthy Heart Run Walk 2013-See You There!

Readers, you are amazing. You've hung with me through the good and the bad, sent some amazingly encouraging emails my way and have been so supportive. I am truly thankful for you. Some of you have sent me stories of survival, some of loss. Regardless, many of us share a common thread-the heart. Some of us have had it attacked, some have watched others suffer. This year it is my mission to be an advocate for heart health and to use my new heart for what it is intended...love. Time for those of us who are lucky enough to be here to reach out to others and spread compassion.

One way we can do this is support great causes. So readers, I have something for you today. Palmer Chiropractic Clinic Healthy Heart Walk/Run is right around the corner. There are 2 races- one in Port Orange, FL on February 24th and one in Lake Mary, FL on April 21st. Both events offer a 1 mile run, 5k or 10k so they're great for all runners! My friend Amanda emailed the director of the race to find out more about the medals (they're a heart!) and mentioned this blog. Turns out they've asked me to speak at the Port Orange race! I will be speaking right before the start! What an honor! I will also be running both 10k races. I. Am. Psyched.

This amazing race can be on your race schedule this year as well. If you register for the Port Orange race use the discount code "sarah13" which will give you five dollars off your registration for the next 15 days only! Proceeds benefit the American Heart Association so I hope to see you there! ♥

Resolution, Schmesolution

Ready for a new year!
It's 2013! I can't believe it's here! I hope everyone had an amazing New Year's Eve. I know I did.

2013 has already started on an amazing high. Remember Nurse Linda? The nurse who I'm pretty sure was an angel and took amazing care of me during my stay at the hospital? Well I sent her a text message this morning to tell her 2013 wouldn't have been possible without her. She wrote me back the most lovely message with the kindest words. I won't share it here because some things are sacred, and I will treasure it forever. But trust me, it was awesome. :)

I've been reading a lot of messages and tweets about resolutions. Resolutions are amazing-they motivate, hold people accountable and give you a goal to strive for. But I think my resolution is not to have a resolution this year. I've spent 2012 turning my life upside down, and this year I'd just like to enjoy it. I've never been so content with life so something must be going right. I'll keep running, eating well, meditating, living life and being an advocate for heart health because that's ME now and hopefully forever. I hope whatever your resolution is that it makes you happier and healthier. Go 2013! ♥
