Why We Walk

What a whirlwind! The past 2 weeks have been consumed with studying, teaching and the occasional cat nap. Comps have come and gone, and now it's time to end the school year. In the midst of all of this I was interviewed by the American Heart Association Heart Walk organizers! Here's the story that will end up on the website! Pretty exciting stuff! Shout out to Taylor Roberts Photography for the photo. :)
Me?! No way!
Next stop? Oral comps at UF and then SUMMER! Time for rest and relaxation! I've decided to go vegan for the summer, hoping that will help speed up my EF recovery and prepare my body for marathonfest training. Time for running & sunning! ♥

Dear Bruises

Dear Bruises,
It's now hotter than anything here in Florida and I'd love to wear shorts, dresses and skirts soon. Please go away.
Thanks,
Sarah ♥

1st full week of training!

This week I made the commitment to do a 3 day training week to get back into the routine. Before this I've only trained 2 days. Luckily I've had Kathleen to suffer through the blazing 90+ degree evening trainings with me. Today was great because we all got to run together again-Amanda, Kathleen, Amy, Lora and I. Definitely worth my alarm clock going off at 4:30 am. My heart rate is getting more steady and lower with each run which means my body is getting used to it again. With my 4 month anniversary on Friday, things are starting to look up. This doesn't look like much but I'm happy I've come this far. Half marathon in November here I come! ♥
A full week! Stronger each day...

Saturday's run with my ladies. Slow and steady wins the race...or at least finishes;)

On The Road Again!

Run number 3! My first official run on the road. Not bad, not bad! Tonight I ran around Winter Park with my hero Kathleen. We set ourselves up with 1:1s, and ended up with 2.58 miles and an average pace of 14:22. The weather was humid and the cars were out to hit us, but we prevailed. We even ran past where I started crying the morning of my first heart attack and I barely flinched. Time to get back into the saddle. I WILL be ready by the time Marathonfest training starts on June 2nd. ♥

Thanks Jess!

Jess' 1st 5k! ♥

Pittsburgh Marathon Eve

As I write this blog, it is the Saturday night before the Pittsburgh Marathon. Amanda is there, tucked into her hotel room bed, running gear laid out for tomorrow's race. I should be there. Instead, I'm in Orlando, reflecting on the past year and doing runs like today's. It's such a confusing emotional state-excited for Amanda, jealous that I'm not there, disappointed in my short mileages, thankful that I can even run. So I'm trying to focus all of my tangled feelings into increasing my pace and looking forward. My pace was much better today, but still not where I need it to be. I'm trying to aim for a 5k in either June or July and the St Pete Half in November. For now I need to stay calm and run on. ♥
